Spotlight: Kid Flash!
I was little when it happened but it was huge when the Flash, Barry Allen, died and Wally, who'd been his sidekick for years took over the mantle of Flash for 20 something years.
Characters usually die and come back quickly but Barry always had sacrificed himself and Wally always took over and made everyone proud of him.
And now Wally is in limbo and gone because of the new 52.
