Figure with parasol by KerrithJohnson Figure with parasol by KerrithJohnson
Oil Paint, Mansonite Board, June 2010

First painting finished during a co-op I've been working at this Summer.

Constructive criticism welcome.

Your colors are way better then your previous work though. And I forgot to mention the hand and background, they're great.

This is quite an leap from what you did during the school year.

Let's see... Remember the chest muscles are attached to the shoulders. So when the shoulders rise, the edges rise too. So that line doesn't make much sense. It looks a bit disjointed.

Nitpick and maybe it should be there, I haven't seen the original. But the light on her cheek stands out a bit, everything around it is cooler and darker, plus it's at the shadow area.

Might want the back of the chair to have less contrast. It is all in shadow after all, so maybe some of the bright parts should be less... bright.

Hope that helps... I really need to try oil... so far I've only done watercolor during life-drawing and am doing stuff on photoshop...

Thanks. Yah my camera kinda washed the colours a bit but yah some of the lights and shadows could be tweaked a bit. I think the board absorbed the oil and the colours dulled. So just gotta pump em back up with oil

Yah I'm kinda more focused funnyly enough....HA.
